This is the perfect Summer smoothie recipe or as we like to call it, the Tropical Green Smoothie. Pineapple is great in the Summer months and being a larger fruit, can go a long way so is really cost effective. Pineapples contain bromelain, an enzyme which is know to help arthritis pain by easing inflammation. They are also a good source of vitamin C, which helps your immune system and stimulates the production of collagen and vitamin K which improves circulation. This is why Bromelain is also known to help cellulite - it’s a perfect fruit to pick on pre-summer when the legs go bare.

We’ve based this smoothie recipe on pineapple and wheatgrass which is a green powder packed with vitamins and minerals (Vitamins A, E and B12, calcium, magnesium, selenium and iron), amino acids and chlorophyll. It’s a great powder to include in your diet when detoxing and again, pre summer if you are looking to shape up as amongst other benefits, it can support a healthy functioning thyroid gland and can help to stimulate metabolism.

Serves 1

- 1 teaspoon of Organic Wheatgrass 

- 1 teaspoon Organic Maca 

- 1 small banana

- 1 small cup pineapple

- 1 cup spinach

- 1 tablespoon of almond butter (we use Biona or Meridian)

- 1 tablespoon of Organic Coconut Flakes

- 1 teaspoon Organic Coconut Oil 

- 200 ml (or more depending on the preferred consistency) of almond, oat or rice milk (I prefer homemade or unsweetened almond milk)

Blend all of the ingredients except the organic coconut flakes which I add in at the end for a bit of bite in the smoothie. You could also add some goji berries or chia seeds. This recipe is dairy, wheat and gluten free and will set you up for the morning.
